Host Tarek Michael Chouja welcomed special guest Ross Campbell, Founder of Beyond Activ, a leader in the fitness and wellness industry with a deep understanding of SaaS technology in the sector. The two engaged in a conversation about the importance of innovation in the fitness and wellness space, particularly the integration of technology and the growing trend of addressing the needs of older demographics.
The episode kicked off with Ross reflecting on the rapid development of SaaS companies in 2024. With substantial funding coming into the industry, Ross highlighted the shift towards new, innovative solutions aimed at improving the overall fitness experience. He pointed out that although there is no shortage of great software companies, it’s vital that businesses choose solutions tailored to their specific needs. “There are honestly great companies out there,” he said, “but the solution really needs to fit the person or business.”
Ross continued to discuss how AI is becoming an integral part of fitness technology, predicting significant advancements over the next few years. As we approach 2025, it’s clear that tech companies are poised to shape the future of fitness, not just in terms of convenience, but in how businesses connect with and serve their clients.
A significant portion of their conversation revolved around the gap in the industry regarding older adults. “The fitness industry does a great job of focusing on those under 40,” Ross said. “But when we look at the over-40 market, we’re missing opportunities to create products and platforms that make these individuals feel welcomed.” He stressed that this demographic is being overlooked and underrepresented in the wellness space. It’s a point of contention for Ross, who strongly believes that addressing this gap will not only diversify the fitness community but also encourage healthier habits among older populations.
Tarek echoed this sentiment, agreeing that inclusivity in fitness needs to go beyond just the physical space and should also extend to how fitness businesses operate and engage with diverse groups of people. With the fitness industry’s growth, it’s crucial that businesses adapt to changing demographics and needs. Ross wrapped up the conversation by giving a heartfelt tribute to Steve Cotter, a respected figure in the kettlebell community, who had recently passed away. His memory, as Ross shared, serves as a reminder of the importance of treating everyone with respect and equality in the fitness world.
Listen now and get ready to hear a thought-provoking conversation on how fitness businesses can adapt to the ever-changing needs of both technology and diverse populations.
